Willis H. Carr, Jr., age 83, of New Hartford, NY, passed away due to natural causes at his beloved home of 43 years in New Hartford on Saturday, November 8, 2008.
He was born on April 12, 1925 at Rome Memorial Hospital, a son to Willis Henderson Carr and Lillian Tibbitts Carr.
He attended Proctor High School in Utica while residing at the Masonic Orphanage. After serving in the U.S. Army (signal corps.), he later attended R.P.I. in Troy where he received his Professional Engineering License.
He soon began work at the growing General Electric Aeorspace Division in Utica, NY, where he remained employed for some 35 years until his retirement. Earlier in his career, he also worked for Revere Copper & Brass in Rome, NY.
As a young man, Bill Carr was an avid hiker and outdoors man. His interests also included poetry, writing, philosophy, and solving mathematical puzzles.
He is survived by two sons; Scott H. Carr of Raleigh, NC and James B. Carr of New Hartford, and a nephew, William Bigelow of Syracuse. He was predeceased by his sister, Ida Bigelow.
A memorial service in his honor will be held on Thursday, November 13, at 4:00 at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford.
