John B. Dowd, 64, of West Winfield, passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
He was born on March 22, 1944, in Hardsen Township, NJ, a son of the late George and Evelyn Mendel Dowd. He graduated from Richfield Springs High School. John married Kay Cleary on July 12, 1969, in the Ilion Methodist Church. He served in the United States Army. John worked for Remington Arms as a machinist and later worked for Sears. He enjoyed collecting unique steins and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife, Kay Dowd, of West Winfield; two sons, Michael Dowd and Jamie Dowd and his wife, Jamie, all of West Winfield; his grandchildren, Todd, Nathan and Kirsty; two sisters, Mary Eldred and her husband, Albert, of Richfield Springs and Deborah Ryan and her husband, Lois, of Dewitt MI; four brothers, Robert Dowd and his wife, Susan, of Bridgewater, Richard Dowd and his wife, Carol, of Umatilla, FL, George Dowd and his wife, Dawn, of Ilion, and William Dowd, of Ilion; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents.
A memorial service will be on Wednesday at 3:30 at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 365 W. Main St., West Winfield. The family will receive family and friends on Wednesday from 1:00 to 3:30 prior to the service.
