Joan M. Sanford, 77, passed away after an extended illness, on November 8, 2008, at the Cedar Unit of the Presbyterian Home for CNY, Inc.
Joan was born, February 20, 1931, in Omaha, NE, the daughter of Archibald and Lela Lanning Schreiber. She graduated from Ames High School, class of 1949, in Ames, IA. On September 2, 1949, Joan married John Sanford, in Collegiate Presbyterian Church, Ames, IA. Joan furthered her education at Mohawk Valley Community College, where she earned an Associates Degree, in Banking & Real Estate, in 1976. Mrs. Sanford was a Realtor, and was employed as a sales associate with J.C. Penney, in the furniture department. She was a member of the Whitesboro Presbyterian Church.
Joan was a talented seamstress, and enjoyed decorating her home. She often came to the rescue of her family by making dresses and costumes for special events. Joan loved music, history, art and travel. She enjoyed sharing her many interests with her family members.
Survivors include her husband, John; two daughters and a son-in-law, Barbara Sanford-Ferrick & husband Thomas Ferrick, Rome, and Laura Sanford, Kirkland; a son and daughter-in-law, John & Pamela Sanford, Encinitas, CA; grandchildren, Kaitlin, Kristina, Arielle, Nicholas, and Dylan; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her in-laws; a sister, Jean; and a brother, Arch.
Services will be Tuesday, 9:30 a.m., at the Whitesboro Presbyterian Church, corner of Main at Elm Sts., Whitesboro. Arrangements are in care of Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, Whitesboro. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to Alzheimer’s Association of CNY, or a charity of your choice.
