Sarcinello, Martin L.

Martin L. Sarcinello, 85, passed away November 12, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.


He was raised and educated in Scranton, PA.  In 1947 he married Edith Capoccia, from Dunmore, PA. The couple then moved to Syracuse, NY where Martin was employed by General Electric Co. at Electronics Park, as a draftsman.  He then transferred to Utica, at the French Road plant in 1952.  In 1961, he was employed at Univac, as a drafting supervisor, until the plant closed in 1976.  Mr. Sarcinello was then employed with T&M Associates as an Engineering Document Analyst, until his retirement in 1987.

 

Martin was a World War II veteran, serving from March 1943 until March 1946.  He trained with the 8th Armored Division as an artillery man, and was sent to the European Theatre of Operations as a replacement on June 1, 1944.  He then served as a Military Policeman with the 399th MP Battalion until September 1945.

 

While residing in North Utica, Martin was very active in the Boy Scouts as a Scoutmaster with Troop 72, at St. Peter’s Church, and helped to establish Troop 27 at Thomas Jefferson School.  He was involved in the North Utica Little League, first as a coach of the Yankees, then as president of the league.  He helped to establish, and served as the first president of the Northview Village Neighborhood Association, and the Utica General Electric Draftsmen’s Association.  He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, West Winfield, for 36 years.

 

Besides his wife; he leaves one son, Martin, of Cedarville; one daughter and son-in-law, Judi & Dave Williams, of Unadilla Forks; one beloved granddaughter, Nicole Currier; two very special grandsons, Chad and Jerrit Williams; great-grandson, Anthony Louis Urtz; great-granddaughter, Sophia Rose Currier; brother and sister-in-law, Joseph & Barbara Sarcinello; sister and brother-in-law, Grace & Silvio Cappelletti; brother-in-law, Jack McCaffery; and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by sisters, JoAnn Hyland, and Marie McCaffery.

 

In keeping with Marty’s wishes, there will be no visitation.  All are welcome to attend his Funeral Mass, Saturday, 12:00 p.m., at St. Joseph’s Church, West Winfield.  Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.  Arrangements are in care of Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, West Winfield.
